ABOUT MICHÈLE + GREG

When I got engaged after a New Year’s eve proposal, my fiancé was living in Vancouver and we decided that I would move out to BC for the summer. Being an aesthetics teacher and coordinator at a college in Ottawa for 19 years, I was able to take some time off to grow my career.

We had an apartment in Vancouver's West End that was a stone's throw away from the ocean. During most sunny days, I would spend  time on the beach thinking about what inspired me and about what I wanted to create. I’ve always been passionate about style and everyone around me told me that I had a flair for design. After a few contracts through word of mouth, I began to realize that I might actually be capable of carrying out this dream of designing our own intimate venue.

Having been raised on a farm, I always knew I wanted to get married in the country. I have wonderful memories of our garden and the natural beauty of flowers; the way they would drape and mingle naturally as they do in the wild always fascinated me. Fragrances play a significant role in my life.

Since a very young age I would search for beautiful, inspirational looks and incorporate them into my everyday life wherever I could. I knew I was going to design my own wedding and I began researching and imagining what it would feel like.

I started planning the day after I got engaged! I just couldn’t wait to make it happen. First, it had proven difficult to find a location in the Gatineau-Ottawa area that could offer what we needed and wanted. We looked everywhere. After talking to my fiancé and my parents, it dawned on us! Why not use the beautiful pine wood barn that my dad had built on their country property in Gatineau, Quebec?

Although I gained valuable experience through my extensive research of what was out there, I found that certain details were not readily available or easily accessible. That is when my parents, fiancé and I came up with the idea to build these custom pieces to make the event unique and seamless. We used reclaimed wood from the land to build benches and tables. This created a special ambiance that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. We transformed this simple country setting into a breathtaking wedding venue inspired by love.

That is when Adelina Design was born. The real Adelina was my paternal grandmother, an incredibly hard-working woman who had 17 children. It is still difficult to describe how she was such an inspiration to me. She was the essence of talent and tranquility. Using her name as the role model for this project gives me the confidence to believe that I can effectively create beauty and have a quiet impact on the lives of others for those special moments.

It was clear to me that I wanted to share my experience, knowledge and creativity with people to help make their wedding a dream come true by offering the service of  this beautiful, simple barn venue we created. With a combined background in design, event planning and environmental education, Michele and Greg offer an inspiring and unique destination. I am thankful to have the opportunity to do what I love with my husband, Greg. I'd love to design and do your floral arrangements. Anything that reflects the wishes of clients I work with is what inspires me to do what I do. I enjoy the little things in life that make you smile.
